The headliner for the Opening Ceremony is none other than the multiple award winning, multi-talented singer/actor/pianist, Craig A. Meyer starring in REMEMBER WHEN ROCK WAS YOUNG-THE ELTON JOHN TRIBUTE. Craig captures the music, costumes and charisma of Sir Elton John. “Craig is one of the most talented people I have ever worked with. He can do ANYTHING!” says Barry Manilow. Today, he is considered to be the best Elton John tribute artist in the market, whose strong vocals, striking resemblance and amazing talent on the piano has audiences everywhere remembering when rock was young. This spectacular theatrical experience is a musical journey celebrating the decades of chart topping hits of Sir Elton John.
Other happenings throughout the evening will include ceremonial elements such as the Parade of Athletes (an expected 18 nations to be represented), Pan-Asian dances and a variety of thrilling entertainment…all celebrating a passion for bringing together an international audience and showcasing our areas forte in welcoming all who live here and those who visit.
Serving as an ambassador for our region, the organizing committee invites you to attend this exciting event. Come cheer on team USA (approximately 160 athletes), revel in the evening’s entertainment with your newly made global friends, help them discover southern hospitality and experience the grandeur and excitement of once again putting Gainesville, GA on the world stage (this venue is home to several international rowing and paddling competitions).
