“As a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra trumpet section, I was honored to perform under the baton of Henry Mancini, world renowned film and television composer. As the maestro turned to acknowledge the thunderous applause of a sold-out amphitheater and the orchestra prepared for the downbeat of “Peter Gunn,” Mr. Mancini’s lead and solo trumpeter invited me to play the upcoming solos in his stead. Little did I suspect that my performance would be the launching of an 18-year career with the master of melody.”

Cecil Welch

When the list is compiled of the great pop and jazz trumpet virtuosos of this generation, Cecil Welch must surely be included. This veteran of the concert stage has created a unique style of performance and an ambience with his audiences that guarantees success. As a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra during the tenure of Maestro Robert Shaw, Henry Mancini, the Academy Award winning film composer, heard Cecil perform and offered him a position as his principal trumpeter and soloist. This association allowed Cecil to perform with most of the major symphonies all across America, Canada and abroad, including the London Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony and the Tokyo Philharmonic.

In addition to his solo trumpet work, Cecil is also the founder and leader of a 16-piece orchestra, the Cecil Welch Big Band.
